Malayalam has the atomic chillu letters ൺ ൻ ർ ൽ ൾ ൿ (U+0D7A–0D7F): consonants that never take a vowel. Older text spells them as consonant + virama + ZWJ, so the two forms can look identical and not compare equal. The block also has the dot reph ൎ, the old letters ഩ ഴ റ്റ and the digits ൦–൯.

Questions about malayalam unicode character pad

How do I type Malayalam characters that aren’t on my keyboard?

What is U+0D00?

Malayalam is the Unicode block U+0D00–U+0D7F. Every Malayalam character has a code point in that range, shown as U+ followed by four hex digits. The block currently has 118 assigned characters (Unicode 16.0).

Why do some characters show with a dotted circle?

Vowel signs, the virama and other marks never stand alone: they attach to the letter before them. The pad draws a dotted circle ◌ as a placeholder so you can see the mark; only the sign itself is inserted. Click it after a consonant to attach it.

How do I use the HTML entity or JavaScript escape?

Select a character to see its codes. Use the HTML entity (क) in web pages or emails where you can’t type the character, and the JavaScript escape (\u0915) in code or JSON. Both give the exact same character.
