01 · How Nepali typing works
Romanized Nepali is the way most people text. This page turns it into Unicode Nepali. Nepali keeps a final a short (ma → म, ta → त), so only ā needs a double aa, and छ is typed chha as people write it.
Nepali words such as म, त, र end in a short a, so a word-final a adds no ā sign. Type aa when you mean the long vowel.
chh is छ, so chha gives छ, the verb Nepali uses all day.
.N is the chandrabindu ँ (gaau.N). A capital ~N gives ङ and ~n gives ञ.
T, Th, D, Dh, N are the retroflex ट ठ ड ढ ण, as in पहाड and काठमाडौँ.
Press space, Enter or a punctuation mark and the word you typed turns into Nepali. Pasted text is converted word by word.
Roman letters can be read several ways. The chips list known words first, then single-letter alternatives. Press 1–5 or tap.
Toggle plain English for names, URLs and numbers. Backspace right after a conversion gives your letters back.
02 · Spelling ambiguity
Nepali keeps a final a short, and distinguishes छ from च and the dental from the retroflex consonants, so the ambiguities are fewer than in Hindi but just as consequential. Every pair below was run through the typing engine when the page was built, and a test checks each one.
chh is छ, so chha gives छ. A single ch is च.
A final a is short in Nepali, so ma is म and maa is मा.
Capital letters inside the word are the retroflex consonants.
Typed pani and got पनी
Meant पानी
Type paani: write aa for the long ā. The suggestion chip offers it too.
Typed garcha and got गर्च
Meant गर्छ
Type garchha: double the h for the aspirated छ. The suggestion chip offers it too.
Typed aajaa and got आजा
Meant आज
Type aaja: the final a is already short in Nepali, so one a is enough. The suggestion chip offers it too.

05 · FAQ
Preeti is a legacy font that stores Nepali as English-looking letters. This page makes real Unicode Nepali. For old Preeti files use the Preeti to Unicode converter.
A final i is read as ī. The chips beside the box and the word list offer पनि too, and pressing its number picks it.
It is a frequency list of a few thousand words taken from Nepali Wikipedia, enough for the common words. Names and rare words use the plain rules.
Click in the box and type each word the way it sounds, for example “mero desh nepaal”. When you press space or a punctuation key the word becomes Nepali (मेरो देश नेपाल). The chips above the box list other spellings; press 1–5 or tap one to swap it in.
Right after a word converts, press Backspace once to get your English letters back and edit them, or press Ctrl+Z, or tap “Undo word”. You can also tap another chip before pressing space. Switch with Ctrl+Space when you want plain English.
No. The conversion runs in your browser. The page downloads one small word-list file from this site so it can suggest spellings; what you type is never sent. The text is kept in this tab’s session storage so a refresh does not lose it, and it disappears when you close the tab.
It is built for touch screens: big tappable chips, and the conversion waits until your keyboard has finished its own word so predictive keyboards do not fight it. If your phone keyboard autocorrects Roman words before this page sees them, turn off auto-correct for this site or use the suggestion chips.
Yes: Copy puts the Nepali text on the clipboard, and the download buttons save a .txt or a Word .docx. The text is standard Unicode, so it pastes into WhatsApp, Gmail, Word and Google Docs.
