Nudi keyboard: Nudi characters to Kannada Unicode, live
Type or tap Nudi characters and see the Kannada Unicode they stand for. Nudi relies on extended characters, so a tray of them is included.

Dashed keys depend on position. Faded keys are not mapped by this font. Hold Shift on your keyboard to see the upper layer.
01 · How the layout works
How the Nudi layout works.
Nudi stores Kannada as Latin-1 characters: nearly every letter is made from characters outside the plain keyboard (for example ಕ is “PÀ”). In the real font these come from the Nudi keyboard software. This page therefore works differently from the Hindi pages: the keyboard keys show the few letters that sit on plain keys, and the tray below lists every Nudi character with its Kannada meaning so you can build text by clicking or by pasting existing Nudi text.
For writing new Kannada, type in Unicode (for example with the Kannada InScript keyboard here) and convert to Nudi if a printer or form needs it.

47 characters are off the keyboard
The font also uses characters outside the plain keys: conjunct glyphs and extra signs, typed with Alt codes or a keyboard driver in the real font. Open “more characters” under the keys to add them.

03 · Practice
Common words, and their keystrokes.
Type the keys in the box above and check you get the word. Each pair was generated and checked by the converter when this page was built. “Try” puts the keystrokes in the box.

Some keystrokes include characters that are not on the keyboard (they look like symbols or accented letters). In the real font these come from Alt codes or a keyboard driver; “Try” inserts them for you, and the “more characters” tray lists them all.
04 · FAQ
Questions about the Nudi keyboard
Can I type Kannada properly here with the Nudi keyboard?
Not with the plain keys alone: Nudi needs its extended characters. Use the practice words (“Try”) and the tray to enter them, or paste existing Nudi text. For new text, the Kannada InScript keyboard is the easier route, then convert with Unicode to Nudi.
Is this Nudi or Baraha?
The profile covers the common Nudi / Baraha 8-bit layout. Other Kannada ASCII fonts (Shree-Lipi, Akruti) use different encodings.
Do I need the Nudi font installed?
No. This page turns your keystrokes into Unicode Kannada as you type, which displays everywhere without any special font. You only need Nudi installed if you copy the raw keystrokes (“Copy keys”) into a document set in Nudi.
Can I use this on a phone?
Yes. Tap the on-screen keys. Each key shows the Kannada letter it types, and dashed keys depend on position.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. The last text you typed is kept only in this tab’s session storage so a refresh doesn’t lose it.
