01 · What to expect
Your device decides which voices you get.
On-device voices
Installed with Windows, macOS, iOS or Android, or downloaded as voice packs. They run locally and usually work offline. They are labelled on device in the picker.
Online voices
Chrome can add Google network voices (for example “Google हिन्दी”) and Edge can add Microsoft online voices. They often sound better but send the text to the vendor’s servers. They are labelled online.
Nothing stored by us
This page has no server component: it only calls your browser. It cannot save audio, so there is no MP3 download.

Voices are matched by BCP-47 language tag. If a voice for your language exists on your device, it appears in the picker; if not, it is not offered.

Questions about indian-language text to speech
How does this read Hindi aloud?
It uses your browser’s built-in speech synthesis (the Web Speech API). The page hands the text to the browser, and the browser asks your device’s voices to speak it. We do not run a speech engine of our own and cannot add voices.
Is my text sent anywhere?
That depends on the voice, which is why each voice is labelled. A voice marked “on device” is installed on your computer or phone and speaks without a network. An “online” voice, such as the Google voices in Chrome, sends the text to the voice provider’s servers to make the audio. This page itself sends nothing to our servers, but it cannot make an online voice private.
Why is there no voice for my language?
Voices come from your operating system and browser, so availability differs a lot between devices. Hindi is the most widely available Indian-language voice; others may be missing. If your language is not listed, look in your system’s text-to-speech or speech settings for voice packs to install, then reload this page. Some browsers show voices only after a first use.
Can I download the speech as an MP3?
No. Browsers do not expose the audio from speechSynthesis to web pages, so a page cannot capture it. And the voices are licensed to your device by their vendor, so recording and redistributing them is not something this site offers. For audio files you need a dedicated text-to-speech service whose licence allows it.
Why does it stop or sound robotic on long text?
Some engines cut off after about 15 seconds of continuous speech, so the page reads long text in sentence-sized parts and shows “Part 2 of 6”. Quality depends on the voice: neural voices (often the online ones) sound far more natural than the compact on-device ones.
Does pitch always work?
No. Some voices ignore pitch, and some ignore speed beyond a limited range.
