02 · How to practise
Short, daily, accurate.
Twenty focused minutes a day beat one long weekend session. Keep your fingers on the home row, look at the screen and not at the keys, and repeat a lesson until accuracy is steady before you move on. Speed follows.
When the sentences feel easy, take the Kruti Dev typing test. The three rules that trip beginners (ि before the letter, reph after, ो and ौ as two keys) are explained on the Kruti Dev keyboard page.
03 · FAQ
Questions about this page
Do I need to know Hindi typing already?
No. The first lessons are single keys on the home row, one hand at a time, and every lesson shows the Unicode letter each key makes. Finish a lesson with at least 90% accuracy to mark it complete; that threshold is ours, not an exam standard.
Why do the lessons show keys and letters together?
Kruti Dev is typed by key positions, and the same letters look different on the screen. Each box shows the keys to press on top and the Hindi they make underneath, so you learn the position and the sound together.
What if I press the wrong key?
The lesson waits for the right key and counts the mistake. Accuracy is correct presses out of all presses. Press Esc to restart a lesson.
Does it work with a Hindi keyboard turned on in my computer?
Yes. Keys are read by their physical position when your computer is set to another language. For best results leave the keyboard on English (US).
Is my progress sent anywhere?
No. Your best accuracy per lesson is stored in this browser’s localStorage only.
Where do the lessons’ words come from?
Common words and short sentences written for this site. Keystrokes for them are generated by the Kruti Dev engine and checked by typing them back through it in the test suite.
