01 · How Marathi typing works
Marathi shares Devanagari with Hindi but needs a few letters Hindi keyboards hide: ळ, the ज्ञ spelled dny, and the ॲ ऑ vowels of English loanwords. Words ending in a are read as ā (mala → मला), which suits Marathi’s many -ā endings. A full stop stays a plain dot, as in modern Marathi.
Capital L is the retroflex ळ that Hindi rarely uses and Marathi needs constantly.
Marathi pronounces ज्ञ as “dnya”, and people type it that way. dny gives ज्ञ anywhere in a word, and gy gives it at the start.
.o gives ऑ or ॉ, as in डॉक्टर, ऑफिस and कॉलेज.
Marathi words end in ā far more often than in a bare consonant, so a final a makes ा. Stop on a consonant for the bare form.
n or m before a consonant becomes ं (mumbai, pune). Add an underscore to keep a half letter.
Press space, Enter or a punctuation mark and the word you typed turns into Marathi. Pasted text is converted word by word.
Roman letters can be read several ways. The chips list known words first, then single-letter alternatives. Press 1–5 or tap.
Toggle plain English for names, URLs and numbers. Backspace right after a conversion gives your letters back.
02 · Spelling ambiguity
Marathi adds ळ and a ज्ञ that is pronounced “dnya” to the usual Devanagari ambiguities of vowel length and dental versus retroflex consonants. Every pair below was run through the typing engine when the page was built, and a test checks each one.

05 · FAQ
Yes. Capital L is ळ, and dny is ज्ञ (as in ज्ञानेश्वर). These are the two letters most often wrong in Hindi-first keyboards.
Modern Marathi uses a plain full stop rather than the danda, so this page does too. Hindi, Nepali and Sanskrit pages do convert it to ।.
That is the job of the font converters: Shree-Dev, Shivaji and Kiran to Unicode are linked below. This page is for typing new text.
Click in the box and type each word the way it sounds, for example “maajhii shaaLaa”. When you press space or a punctuation key the word becomes Marathi (माझी शाळा). The chips above the box list other spellings; press 1–5 or tap one to swap it in.
Right after a word converts, press Backspace once to get your English letters back and edit them, or press Ctrl+Z, or tap “Undo word”. You can also tap another chip before pressing space. Switch with Ctrl+Space when you want plain English.
No. The conversion runs in your browser. The page downloads one small word-list file from this site so it can suggest spellings; what you type is never sent. The text is kept in this tab’s session storage so a refresh does not lose it, and it disappears when you close the tab.
It is built for touch screens: big tappable chips, and the conversion waits until your keyboard has finished its own word so predictive keyboards do not fight it. If your phone keyboard autocorrects Roman words before this page sees them, turn off auto-correct for this site or use the suggestion chips.
Yes: Copy puts the Marathi text on the clipboard, and the download buttons save a .txt or a Word .docx. The text is standard Unicode, so it pastes into WhatsApp, Gmail, Word and Google Docs.
