Dashed keys depend on position. Faded keys are not mapped by this font. Hold Shift on your keyboard to see the upper layer.
01 · How the layout works
Six rules cover almost everything.
- 01
Most letters are one key
d is क, j is र, l is स, e is म. Lower-case keys mostly give full letters.
dक
- 02
Shift gives half letters
Upper-case keys mostly give the half form used in conjuncts: D is क्, L is स्.
Loस्व
- 03
Some full letters need the danda key
Letters like ख, थ, ध, भ are a half form plus k (the ा stroke): [k is ख, Hk is भ.
Hkभ
- 04
ि is typed before the letter
Type f first, then the letter, just as it looks on paper: fd is कि.
fdकि
- 05
Reph (र् on top) is typed after
Type the letter, then Z: dk;Z is कार्य.
dk;Zकार्य
- 06
ो and ौ are two keys
ks gives ो and kS gives ौ: dks is को.
dksको

Common words, and their keystrokes.
Type the keys in the box above and check you get the word. Each pair was generated and checked by the converter when this page was built. “Try” puts the keystrokes in the box.

Some keystrokes include characters that are not on the keyboard (they look like symbols or accented letters). In the real font these come from Alt codes or a keyboard driver; “Try” inserts them for you, and the “more characters” tray lists them all.

04 · FAQ
Questions about the Kruti Dev keyboard
Is this the same as the Remington Hindi keyboard?
Kruti Dev follows the Hindi typewriter (Remington-style) arrangement, which is why typists trained on typewriters use it. Exam software that says “Remington GAIL” may differ from Kruti Dev 010 on a few keys, so practise in the exact layout your exam names.
Do I need the Kruti Dev font installed?
No. This page turns your keystrokes into Unicode Hindi as you type, which displays everywhere without any special font. You only need Kruti Dev installed if you copy the raw keystrokes into a document set in Kruti Dev.
Can I use this on a phone?
Yes. Tap the on-screen keys. Each key shows the Hindi letter it types, and dashed keys depend on position (like ि, typed before its letter).
How do I type a letter that isn’t on the keyboard?
Some Kruti Dev characters live on extended keys that need Alt codes on Windows. The easiest route is to type the word in Unicode (with any Hindi keyboard) and convert it with the Unicode to Kruti Dev converter.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. The last text you typed is kept only in this tab’s session storage so a refresh doesn’t lose it.
