What to know about Nepali numbers.
Nepal counts to the शंख
Nepali uses सय, हजार, लाख, करोड, अरब, खरब and शंख (10¹³). In Nepal 12,50,000 is बाह्र लाख पचास हजार. Nepali has no “हज़ार” with a dot; हजार is the spelling.
उन- and the prefixed nines
The nines are "one less": 19 उन्नाइस, 29 उनन्तिस, 39 उनन्चालिस, 49 उनन्चास, 69 उनन्सत्तरी, 79 उनासी, 89 उनान्नब्बे and 99 उनान्सय (“one less than a hundred”).
Nepali is not Hindi
Many numbers differ from Hindi: 11 एघार, 12 बाह्र, 15 पन्ध्र, 20 बिस, 90 नब्बे. Do not use a Hindi converter for Nepali cheques.
रुपैयाँ and पैसा
Nepali rupees are रुपैयाँ and the paisa पैसा, joined by र, with मात्र (only) at the end. Nepali banks and government forms write the amount in words (अक्षरेपी) as well as figures.

Questions about Nepali number words
How do I write Nepali rupees in words?
Choose “Amount”, keep Nepal selected, and enter the figure. For example रु 1,25,000.50 becomes एक लाख पच्चिस हजार रुपैयाँ र पचास पैसा मात्र.
How do I write ₹1,25,000.50 in words in Nepali?
एक लाख पच्चिस हजार रुपैयाँ र पचास पैसा मात्र (the “मात्र” ending is optional; the tool adds it when you tick the box).
Does the Nepali converter send my numbers anywhere?
No. The spelling rules are downloaded once with the page and every conversion runs in your browser, so the amounts you type never leave your device.
Can I rely on it for cheques and legal documents?
The words follow the Unicode CLDR spelling rules for Nepali and were cross-checked against dictionaries and other sources (see the sources note below), but spelling can vary by region and bank. Check the result against your bank’s or court’s preferred form for anything binding.
How large a number can it write?
Whole numbers up to 15 digits (for example 99,99,99,99,999 and beyond), with any number of decimal places. Decimals are read digit by digit, and amounts are rounded to two places (paise).
