01 · The Gurmukhi block

80 characters in U+0A00–U+0A7F.

Gurmukhi is built around three vowel carriers, ੳ ਅ ੲ, rather than a full set of independent vowels. It marks nasalisation with the tippi ੰ and bindi ਂ, gemination with the addak ੱ, and has the ek onkar ੴ. Persian-Arabic sounds use the nukta ਼ (਼) on ਸ ਖ ਗ ਜ ਫ. Conjuncts are rare: only a few letters (ਹ ਰ ਵ ਯ) appear as subscript forms after the virama ੍.

Why do some characters show with a dotted circle?

Vowel signs, the virama and other marks never stand alone: they attach to the letter before them. The pad draws a dotted circle ◌ as a placeholder so you can see the mark; only the sign itself is inserted. Click it after a consonant to attach it.

How do I use the HTML entity or JavaScript escape?
