01 · How the layout works

How the TeraFont Trilochan layout works.

TeraFont Trilochan stores Gujarati as English letters and draws the real letters with the font. Half letters sit on Shift keys, the short-i sign િ is typed before its letter (l), and the reph is typed after it. A few Latin letters overlap Gujarati slots, so the same key can mean a letter or a digit in context; the converter chooses consonants and warns about ambiguity.

  1. 01

Type the keys, get the word

Most letters are one key. For example, TeraFont Trilochan spells ગુજરાત with the keys shown here.

    U]HZFTગુજરાત

  2. 02

◌િ is typed before the letter

Some vowel signs are typed first and the letter after, the way they look on paper. The converter puts them after the letter in Unicode.

    l3ઘિ

  3. 03

Reph (ર્) is typed after the letter

Type the letter, then "; the converter moves the reph in front of the letter in Unicode.

    3"ર્ઘ

  4. 04

8 characters are off the keyboard

The font also uses characters outside the plain keys: conjunct glyphs and extra signs, typed with Alt codes or a keyboard driver in the real font. Open “more characters” under the keys to add them.

04 · FAQ

Questions about the TeraFont Trilochan keyboard

Does this cover LMG Arun or other Gujarati legacy fonts?

No. This page covers TeraFont Trilochan only. Other TeraFont families and LMG Arun use different encodings.

Do I need the TeraFont Trilochan font installed?

No. This page turns your keystrokes into Unicode Gujarati as you type, which displays everywhere without any special font. You only need TeraFont Trilochan installed if you copy the raw keystrokes (“Copy keys”) into a document set in TeraFont Trilochan.

Can I use this on a phone?

Yes. Tap the on-screen keys. Each key shows the Gujarati letter it types, and dashed keys depend on position.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser. The last text you typed is kept only in this tab’s session storage so a refresh doesn’t lose it.
