Marathi uses the Devanagari keys you know from Hindi, plus ळ and the eyelash ra. Keystrokes are generated from each layout’s code.

The topics are everyday ones: water, libraries, farming, trees and student life. Each was written for this site, none is taken from an exam or a book, and each can be typed completely on Remington GAIL and on InScript; a test in this repository checks that.

Questions about this page
Which layouts can I use for Marathi?
Remington GAIL and Mangal InScript. Both give Unicode Devanagari, which is what Marathi exams scored on Unicode use. Kruti Dev is not offered for Marathi here, because common Marathi words such as पाऊस (with ऊ) need Alt codes that a browser cannot read.
How do I type ळ?
On Remington GAIL it is Shift+G. On InScript it is Shift+N. Both are single keys, which is why Marathi works on Hindi layouts.
And the ऱ् in शेतकऱ्यांनी?
The eyelash ra is र with a nukta. On Remington GAIL type j then the nukta key (`); on InScript it is Shift+J. It joins to the next letter as usual.
Are these passages from a Marathi exam?
No. They are original, written for this site, and short (about 100 to 130 words each), because we have fewer Marathi passages than Hindi ones. Longer tests chain several of them.
Was the Marathi proofread by a native speaker?
Not yet. We checked the passages for typability on each layout, not for style. If you find a mistake in the text, please tell us so we can correct it.
